Freelance Community Interpreters and Translators Needed!

We are currently searching for freelance community interpreters and translators. Candidates must be proficient in English and in one or more of the following languages: Amharic, Arabic, Bengali, Cantonese, Croatian, Farsi, French, German, Gujarati, Hindi, Hungarian, Lithuanian, Korean, Mandarin, Ojibway, Portuguese, Punjabi, Russian, Slovak, Somali, Spanish, Tagalog, Tamil, Turkish, Ukrainian, Urdu and Vietnamese.

Other languages welcome.

Community Interpreters: Applicants must have the following qualifications:

  • Empathy, as well as solid interpersonal, communication and organizational skills.
  • Fluency in English and in one or more other languages.
  • Successful completion of CILISAT or ILSAT language assessment testing
  • Language testing may be waived for those candidates who possess an interpretation degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Experience in the field of community interpretation
  • Recent Vulnerable Sector Screening (Police check).
  • Valid Ontario Driver's license and reliable transportation to appointments.

Community interpreters will be expected to provide services to various organizations, both in government or business, across the Greater Toronto Area, including York Region.

Translators: Applicants must have the following qualifications:

  • Solid interpersonal, communication and organizational skills.
  • Fluency in English and in one or more other languages.
  • ATIO, or equivalent certificate.
  • Experience in the field of translation.
  • Recent Vulnerable Sector Screening (Police check)
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office.
  • Knowledge of other computer software, such as Adobe Illustrator, an asset.
